Part D Late Enrollment Penalty
Enter the client's uncovered months to estimate their lifetime monthly penalty.
The number of full months the client was eligible for Part D but didn't have creditable prescription drug coverage.
This amount changes yearly. For 2024 it is $34.70, for 2025 it is $36.78, and for 2026 it is $38.99.
Estimated Monthly Penalty
This amount is added to the client's monthly Medicare Part D premium for as long as they have Medicare prescription drug coverage.
Estimate only — actual penalty determined by CMS.
How is this calculated?
Medicare calculates the penalty by multiplying 1% of the "national base beneficiary premium" by the number of full, uncovered months the client didn't have Part D or creditable coverage.
The monthly penalty is rounded to the nearest $0.10 and added to their monthly Part D premium.
